The town of Melton Mowbray is a great place to start for a holiday in Leicestershire, and there are lots of charming pubs, shops and narrow winding lanes in this settlement filled with character. Here, you can walk along the Melton Heritage Trail, stopping off at exciting and historical points along the way such as the Medieval Manor House, one of the oldest buildings in the town dating back to the early 14th century and once owned by the Mowbray family itself. As well as exploring the charming Market Place, you may also wish to visit Lady Wilton’s Bridge and Cardigan House.
If art and culture is more you and your partner’s thing rather than history and heritage, then the city of Leicester is packed full of things to see and do. De Montfort Hall and the Curve Theatre both produce incredible live performances of dance, theatre and comedy, which are great to visit for an evening out with your partner after a romantic candle lit meal at a restaurant. Parts of the National Forest are also nearby which is a lovely place to go on woodland walks and stop of for picnics by the lake in Leicestershire.
